Harbor Star is sole harbor assistance provider for Mariveles grains terminal
Harbor Star Shipping Services, Inc. (HSSSI) has signed a service agreement with Mariveles Grains Corporation (MGC) to be the exclusive harbor assistance service provider for all vessels calling the grains company’s Mariveles terminal.
HSSSI in a regulatory disclosure said its contract with MGC is for two years beginning April 1, 2019.
MGC owns and operates a grains and commodities terminal in Mariveles, Bataan. It offers a range of services, including handling, storage, and distribution of imported bulk grains. Its terminal also handles deliveries from Panamax vessels at a rate of 8,000 to 10,000 metric tons per day.
Under the service agreement, HSSSI will be the exclusive provider of harbor assist services at the terminal, which was previously serviced by other competitors of HSSSI.
HSSSI said the new agreement is in line with its direction to continually enter into exclusive service contracts, rather than spot contracts, with customers to ensure recurring revenue.
Aside from harbor assistance, HSSSI’s services also include lighterage, towage, ship salvage, ship management, diving and underwater marine works, construction, and other specialized services.
As of last year, HSSSI has established operations at 16 baseports around the country, and in Malaysia through subsidiary Peak Flag Sdn Bhd.
HSSSI has also been expanding its business portfolio, which now includes a renewable energy company, a construction business venture, and a floating-dry dock. It is also looking to further develop and strengthen its wholly owned subsidiary Harbor Star Subic Corp., which offers marine-related ancillary services within the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.
